Awards and Memberships

Altogether, Ferdie Deering received scores of plaques and other awards recognizing his work.  A number of the awards have been distributed to family members and friends as mementos of his life.  As a result, the list below is incomplete.

The awards and honors he was most proud of include the Ruben Brigham Award in 1975, the East Central University Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1979, and the
Oklahoma State University Henry G. Bennett Distinguished Service Award in 1983.  Other notable awards and recognition include the Oklahoma State University President's Distinguished Scholarship in 1983, and the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge Awards in 1955, 1969, 1974, and 1981. He was also inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame the year after his death (all highlighted below).

Ferdie was always a humble man, never forgetting his roots and never forgetting his Heavenly Father.  I found the quote on the right in the back of a binder filled with award certificates.  Ferdie Deering lived a balanced life, putting God first, followed by his family, his church, and his life's work.  He was highly successful in all areas.
