East Central State College Journal 1930 - 1932
	"I had been out of high school nearly three years when the idea of becoming a newspaper reporter hit me.  A friend suggested that I enroll in journalism to fill out my schedule.  The teacher, Ben L. Morrison, was in charge of the East Central Journal, a weekly newspaper the college published for students and teachers in its designated district.  Morrison named me sports editor on his unpaid staff.  The second year, I served both as sports editor and business manager." - Ferdie Deering
