COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1881 COUNTY NAMED FOR: Philip Nolan, mustanger and filibuster. COUNTY SEATS: One - Sweetwater COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Sweetwater Creek, known as Sweet Water by postal authorities until 1918. COURTHOUSES: Three - 1888, 1917, and 1977 STANDING: One - 1977 modern courthouse that originally had a polished granite veneer. The granite was replaced by contrasting stone in a project that was completed in 2014.
