COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1846

COUNTY NAMED FOR: Peter W. Grayson, attorney general of the Republic of Texas.

COUNTY SEATS: One - Sherman.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Gen. Sidney Sherman.

COURTHOUSES: Seven - 1847, 18??, 18??, 1853, 1859, 1876, 1936, and 1983.  The 1876 courthouse was destroyed by fire in 1930. 

STANDING: Two -1936 modern courthouse built of concrete and limestone, and 1983 modern Justice Center.
