COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1846

COUNTY NAMED FOR: John Bunyan Denton, an eastern Fannin County Methodist preacher, lawyer, and Indian fighter.

COUNTY SEATS: Three - Pinckneyville, Alton, and Denton.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Same as the county

COURTHOUSES: Six - 1851, 1858, 1876, 1896, 1998, and 2021

STANDING: Three -

  • 1896 eclectic style courthouse. The stone structure mixes Second Empire elements with Romanesque Revival, and has eighty pink granite pillars.  Now used as a museum. 
  • 1998 Modern structure about a mile east of the 1896 building.
  • 2021 Modern courthouse built to consolidate administrative functions as well as to provide room to expand the judicial system.  About 2.5 miles southeast of the 1998 building.
