 COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1880

COUNTY NAMED FOR: Branch Tanner Archer, Texas revolutionary and congressman.

COUNTY SEATS: One - Archer City.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR:  Same as the county.

COURTHOUSES: Two - 1880 and 1892.

STANDING: One -1892 courthouse in Romanesque Revival style and built of sandstone. The tower and roofs over the corner pavilions were removed and a third floor added in a 1925 rennovation.  There were other changes over the years as well.

RENOVATION: Complete - Rededication May 12, 2005.  Building was restored to its 1925 appearance.
