The 1956 Courthouse was badly damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 and subsequently demolished in March 2018. A groundbreaking ceremony was held in April 2022 for a new Courthouse, City Hall and Community building complex. It is expected that the new courthouse will be ready in early 2024. COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1871

COUNTY NAMED FOR: The name Aransas came from the Rio Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu, which has its origin in an estate in Spain.

COUNTY SEATS: One - Rockport.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR:  Rockport's name is geographically descriptive and refers to a ledge of rock near the Gulf of Mexico.

COURTHOUSES: Two - 1889 and 1956 with a 1983 addition.

STANDING: None - New courthouse is under construction.
