COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1893 as "L" county, Oklahoma Territory with the county seat at Pond Creek .  Name changed to Grant by voters in a general election in 1894.  Medford became the county seat through an election in 1908. 

COUNTY NAMED FOR: 
President Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885). 

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: It is generally believed that Medford was named for Medford, Massachusetts, the hometown of a railroad official.

COURTHOUSES:
Three - Two in Pond Creek, and 1910 structure on Medford.

STANDING:
 One - 1910 red brick building in the Classical Revival style.
