ackson County has two county seats; Independence in the east and Kansas City in the west.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Kansas City was founded in 1838 as the Town of Kansas at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers.

STANDING:
 1827 log cabin courthouse in Independence; the 1836 courthouse in Independence is intombed within the 1933 building that was inspired by Independence Hall in Philidelphia;  1934 Art Deco building in Kansas City.
