COUNTY NAMED FOR: Henry A. Wise, a United States Congressman from Virginia, who, during the 1840s, supported the annexation of Texas.

COUNTY SEATS: One - Decatur

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Naval hero Stephen Decatur.

COURTHOUSES: Four - 1858, 1861, 1883, and 1896

STANDING:  One -1896 Romanesque Revival courthouse built of stone.
