COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Though sources disagree, Vernon was probably named either for George Washington's Mount Vernon or for a traveling whiskey salesman named Vernon Brown.

COURTHOUSES: Three - 1883, 1890, and 1928

STANDING: One - 1928 Classical Revival structure made of steel concrete, and stone.
