| The new Smith County Courthouse is an eight-story structure with twelve courtrooms, secure underground inmate transport, and administrative offices. The 1954 courthouse will be demolished in 2027 to transform the site into green space. |

COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1846
COUNTY NAMED FOR: Gen. James Smith, a hero of the Texas Revolution and a prominent military figure in the Republic of Texas.
COUNTY SEATS: One - Tyler
COUNTY NAMED FOR: President John Tyler in recognition of his support for admitting Texas to the United States.
COURTHOUSES: Five - 1846, 1847, 1848, 1852, 1909, and 1954
STANDING: One - 1955 Modern courthouse built of concrete, brick, and stone. In addition, the new courthouse is scheduled to be completed in late 2026.
