COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1891

COUNTY NAMED FOR: Gail Borden, Jr., a newspaper publisher and an organizer of the Republic of Texas. He also was a surveyor who helped lay out the site of Houston and prepared the first topographical map of Texas. He is most famous for inventing a process for condensing milk. The Borden's Milk Company is named for him.
