COUNTY NAMED FOR: 
A Creek town in Cleburne County, Alabama.

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Okemah, a Creek chief. The word is Creek for "big chief."

COURTHOUSES:
The county used rented space until the 1926 courthouse was completed.
