COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1907 from Recording District No. 25, Indian Territory.

COUNTY NAMED FOR: 
William Jennings Bryan (1860-1925) who served in Congress briefly as a Representative from Nebraska and was the 41st United States Secretary of State under President Woodrow Wilson (1913–1915). 

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: A well-know Choctaw family of which Dickson Durant was the prominent member.

COURTHOUSES:
Two - The first courthouse was rented from the owner of a former U.S. Courthouse.  County offices remained in that building until they were able to move into the 1917 structure made of concrete and stone.

STANDING:
 One - 1917 Neo-Classical courthouse.
