COUNTY NAMED FOR:
Stephen A. Douglas, a senator from Illinois.
COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR:
Lawrence was founded by the New England Emigrant Aid Company and was
named for Amos Adams Lawrence who offered financial aid and support for
the settlement.
