COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1856

COUNTY NAMED FOR: Bandera is Spanish for "flag," and there are a number of colorful accounts as to how the county was named.

COUNTY SEATS: One - Bandera

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: Same as county.

COURTHOUSES: Three - 1868, 1881, and 1891

STANDING: Three -

  • 1868 courthouse built of limestone now houses a Justice of the Peace and other offices.
  • 1881 structure is still used as a county building.
  • 1891 Renaissance Revival courthouse also built of limestone.
