COUNTY ORGANIZED: 1855

COUNTY NAMED FOR: 
Frank (or Francis) J. Marshall, a member of the first territorial legislature, who operated a ferry on the Big Blue River at the Oregon Trail crossing. 

COUNTY SEAT NAMED FOR: 

STANDING:
  Modern courthouse made of brick, concrete, and steel, and 1891 courthouse made of brick that now serves as the county museum.
